I believe there is no single approach that can treat each client in all situations. We will work together to create goals to help achieve your individual needs using an integrative counseling approach that combines the best fundamentals of different therapeutic modalities. Some modalities may include supportive counseling, solution focused counseling, or other evidence based modalities.
Many families need a place to come together to find positive ways to communicate and work through issues. Many times, the only place possible to get the whole family together to discuss problems in a safe and controlled place is in a therapy session. Family counseling will allow each family member to express their needs while feeling heard and respected which will ultimately aid in conflict resolution. It is important that all family members are open and willing to make changes, as the goal is to help value one another and build family cohesiveness. In addition, the goal of such therapy is to encourage the use of positive communication between family members, while setting and maintaining realistic boundaries, building respect, and improving family relationships as a whole.
Clinical Immigration Evaluations
In some immigration cases, a clinical biopsychosocial evaluation report can be valuable evidence. If your attorney suggested an evaluation, I can assure you that it is a very standard process where you will feel safe and cared for.
I offer psychological immigration evaluations for the following types of cases:
VAWA / I-360
Extreme Hardship Waivers (I-601, I-601A, I-212, etc.)
Children and Adolescent Counseling
Children and adolescent therapy differs depending on the youth's needs, and I often use an individualized approach with each child/adolescent. Some approaches used include solution focused therapy, Nurtured Heart, and TF-CBT.
I specialize in treating issues associated with the following:
Anxiety (school, social, general)
Social Skills/ Relationship Building
Family conflict/ Sibling conflict
Because youth and adolescents live with their families, it is very important that the family be involved in the treatment, as family systems often have a great impact in the child/adolescent's success in therapy. The goal of treatment is to not only help assist with resolving the primary concern, but to also help the family gain the insight and skills that will keep the family moving forward.
Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Trauma can be caused by many different experiences including abuse/neglect, natural disasters, accidents, or other life events such as divorce, medical issues, or other childhood trauma. Often, those who experience trauma, experience distress.
Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is an evidence-based trauma treatment that will help your child/adolescent recover from their traumatic experience. TF-CBT works with both the child and the parent in sessions so that the family can heal, grow, and move forward together.
Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT)
Research shows that emotional trauma contributes to disease. EFT is a self-help method that has demonstrated efficacy for anxiety, depression, and PTSD. Clinical trials have shown that EFT is able to reduce the emotional impact of memories or incidents that trigger emotional distress, allowing the body to rebalance itself and accelerate healing. This is an evidence supported technique that uses Cognitive Therapy, Exposure, and Acupressure to decrease symptoms of distress.
